Wavell Heights Real Estate
Wavell Heights is a vast and varied suburb conveniently located just 9km from the Brisbane CBD and similarly close to Brisbane Airport. The hilly areas offer spectacular views of the city, and the Keith Boden Wetlands is a great place to see native water birds. Easy access to both the Chermside and Toombul Shopping Centres as well as many local businesses, schools and parks make Wavell Heights a place that truly has it all.
Wavell Heights History
The Wavell Heights area has strong Aboriginal history, evidenced by important sites such as the bora ring at Nudgee Waterhole. Following European settlement, Wavell Heights was known as West Nundah until 1941, when the Brisbane City Council renamed it to honour Field Marshall Lord Wavell in the Second World War.
Following the war, the influx of returning servicemen led to a surge in housing development, as well as other amenities to make Wavell Heights truly feel like home. 1948 alone saw the construction of both Wavell Heights State School and a community centre that included a hall, kindergarten, court, girl guide and scout huts, bowling green and tennis courts.
